Question: What do you enjoy most about Peekskill's musical offerings?

There is a lot to love. Tell us in the comments.

Last Friday the New York Times featured Peekskill jazz in an article by Phillip Lutz,  “Brining in Diners with Offerings Not on the Menu.” The article describes the talent and professionalism of Peekskill jazz favorites Bucky Pizzarella, Ray Blue, Andy Polay and Alexis Cole.

He writes: "When it comes to jazz spots in Westchester, and the lean toward opposite ends of the musical and culinary spectrums. But at a time of year when many fans have decamped for beaches and points beyond, these establishments’ shared ability to attract a crowd is more to the point."

The Peekskill music scene attracts residents from all over the county, but also many here at home in the city. So, share your experience. What keeps you coming back: The professional musicians, veterans in their fields; the ambiance it provides a restaurant; the opportunity to dance the night away?

Tell us in the comments.

I really enjoyed the Jazz and Blues Festival, totally great music, food, beer and a great crowd that made Peekskill feel like the best kind of party! The bars and restaurants are fine but expensive. Bringing quality music to the streets is special, I got to meet and mingle with friends and met so many out of area folks who were having the best time. It looks like Peekskill is becoming a music hub.

The festival was great. The performances at Bean Runner are fantastic and a draw from here and beyond. Go on their website and see what's happening all the time, every weekend. And thanks to Drew and Ted for providing a venue for visual artists as well. I loved being with you.

The Jazz Festival is a monumental draw to Peekskill. It seems to outdo itself year after year. I particularly love it because as an artist with my studio on North Division St., I am right in the heart of it all! I always have my doors open for events like these and invariably folks come in to see and buy my work. Other times I paint until late and then later, jump into some goin' out clothes and hit the town. Yes, the 12 Grapes is great food, fantastic danceable blues/jazz and the Bean Runner has top of the line jazz talent for deep listening. And NOW with the exquisite Irish restaurant/bar The Quiet Man opened right across from me on Division, well let's just say I'm in heaven!
I love Peekskill ~ Maureen Winzig of Winzig's Studio 44 ~

The TIMES coverage of Ted Bitters and the Beanrunner is long overdue! He is a great Jazz programmer -- Arne Paglia knows good, classic Jazz and obviously, personally Bucky Pizarelli (how could you go wrong?) -- but Ted really books a great variety of modern jazz artists consistently (ie Latin jazz for Jazz Fest) AND who are local to the area -- or who have an established local fan base. Arne books Tony Jefferson and I'm a fan of his; he's currently part of Lincoln Center's jazz education ambassador program all over the world! We have amazing Jazz talent in this area. I really hope that Thom Pernice who did such an amazing job on the annual Jazz Fest was able to get some contact information for the jazz fans from NYC, Jersey, CT, even Philly, who came because of WBGO sponsorship because they would flip for some of the artists Ted gets in to play in Peekskill. Ted's programming is what will draw "cultural tourists" in -- I just hope he can keep it up, and turn my kind of gratitude into solid profit from his business. Back to the question though: I love the diverse modern jazz programming but I'd also like to hear some great, classic Big Band stuff, like the Harlem Renaissance Orchestra (19 pieces). More fantasy: this would draw the cool Lindy Hop crowd to Peekskill and also it would more than please the several local ballroom dancing groups in the area. Locals AND "cultural tourists" -- this is what the BID should concentrate on, in my simple opinion.

the news system has been a horror since day one.. nothing was wrong with the old system..new systemRead More Not User friendly at all.. in fact it discourages users.. the format is confusing..can never find the articles once posted again... bring it back.. who ever made this decision should be fired.. lets see if this gets posted..

@Ashley, I posted a comment on my own announcement and it disappeared twice..

Ashley, do you live here in Peekskill? I second what Jo said, the ''new'' patch design is really aRead More horror, although I realize that is not your responsibility. While I think the former editor, Rasheed, probably let some things stand that might be considered rude/mean, how many comments are actually being deleted, versus hitting a tech glitch? I post on yahoo, about half my comments don't make it. Seems the longer I have the comment window open the less chance it gets posted. so that is a tech bug not censorship.

Unleashed dogs is getting to be a big problem in Peekskill. I see them routinely now. People areRead More letting their pit bulls out, their poodles, their chihuahuas - all kinds of dogs. Two days a go I watched a lady jogging on the track with her loose dog. The dog wasn't even supposed to be on the track no less loose. Some kid or elderly lady is going to get bit. Loose dogs also end up in more fights with other dogs.

It seems Patch moves editors every year. Liz was here when I signed up. Then she was shortly movedRead More to Rye and Rasheed took over. He must have been here about a year and then he left when the new format was introduced. Both times patch started cooking and then it got cut down just as new staff got their mojo going. A new editor with a new format seems like starting from scratch again. I know AOL/Patch needs to get some cash flow going quick (from what I've read) but I can't see what they are trying to do exactly by tipping the cart over and over

Working Families Party endorsed candidate Mary Foster
Robin Seggs June 14, 2013 at 10:44 am
Working Families Party almost always cross endorses with Democrats. Looks like the choice isRead More getting clearer: One team is Democrat, WFP and Independent and the Catalina Team is Republican, Right-to-life, Conservative. Anyway, I believe Catalina is campaigning as anti-gay rights, so I know how I will be voting.
