The First Military Order of the Purple Heart parade was held in Peekskill on Saturday, Aug. 10.
The Purple Heart is reserved for military members who have been wounded or killed in action.
Sgt. Gary Beikirch, a Medal of Honor recipient, was the grand marshal of the parade.
Eugene Lang, a Yorktown resident and Vietnam War veteran who received his Purple Heart 44 years later when U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer presented him with his award in August, 2012, also marched in the parade.
