PHOTO GALLERY: Pumpkin Carving at the Hat Factory

Local kids turned regular pumpkins into ghostly jack o' lanterns at the Clay Studio in Peekskill's Hat Factory.

Local children from Peekskill, Cortlandt, Yorktown, Mohegan Lake and Hopewell Junction turned regular pumpkins into jack o'lanterns at the Clay Studios at Peekskill's Hat Factory yesterday.

Many of the kids are students in the clay class and others are friends and family. The pumpkins will be used to decorate the Hat Factory for the Artoberfest kick off this weekend.

"I think the kids like it becuase they are doing something dangerous," clay teacher Jo-Ann Brody said. "they are taking a risk and using a real knife."

The kids were careful with their carving knives, and enjoyed carving out scary mouthes, eyes and noses. But the girls said their favorite part of the day was taking out the gobs of pumpkin guts.

"It feels relaxing," Alexa Dedvukaj, 10, of Peekskill said. She and her friends agreed it might feel nice to stick your feet in two seperate pumpkins and squish around in the seeds and insides. Not a bad idea!
