Peekskill Florist Preps Boutonnieres, Corsages for Prom

The folks at Forever Yours Flowers and Gifts in Peekskill try their hardest to make each corsage different.

That's according to owner Debi DiSisto, who was one of the florists prepping dozens of flowers Wednesday from prom-goers. With Hendrick Hudson's Thursday, Peekskill's Friday, and several others happening around the area, the shop is creating about 250 boutonnieres and corsages this season.

A host of different touches—ranging from rhinestone and pearl keepsake bracelets to peacock feathers to small accent flowers, like orchids—are available to personalize each item, and that makes the process enjoyable.

"It's a fun day," DiSisto told Patch, adding that when the girls stop in to pick up boutonnieres , they peek at the corsages. "It's all chitter chatter. We love it. They come in with their nails done and their hair done, and of course, we make a fuss about that."

The shop, located at 10 Welcher Avenue, has the items ready beforehand, as they're typically ordered in advance. But there's usually a few extra items on hand.

"We always get a guy in his tux who says 'I need a corsage,'" DiSiso said. "He comes in dressed, on his way and says 'Do you have anything?'"

Sometimes couples order the items together so they match. When asked about other trends this year, DiSisto said popular dress colors are gold, navy and black, and white roses are always the most asked-for prom flower.
