PAPA to Host Annual MLK Service in Peekskill Monday

The theme for this year's service, which takes place 3 p.m. Monday at the Peekskill Middle School, is “Keep Dreaming.”

Editor's Note: The following was submitted by the Peekskil Area Pastor's Assocation.  If you would like to post your news to Patch, click here.

The 29th  Annual Martin Luther King Jr.  Interfaith worship service co-sponsored by the Peekskill Area Pastor’s Association (PAPA) and Mount Olivet Baptist Church, will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21,  at the Peekskill Middle School Auditorium.

With the words of Eleanor  Roosevelt, “the future  belongs to those  who believe in the beauty their dreams.”  This years  theme is aptly entitled “Keep Dreaming.”

Keep Dreaming is an invitation to the community to celebrate and reflect on the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.”  This gathering pays homage to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.”  Rev. Lacey remarks, “Dr. King’s is remembered not only a courageous leader, civil rights activist, Nobel Peace Prize  recipient and visionary icon, but above all, he was an acclaimed Baptist preacher who proclaimed God’s word.

The keynote address will be offered by Zead Ramadan, who serves as the trustee for the Hudson Valley Islamic Cultural Center in Mohegan Lake and Chair for the Board of Directors at the Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial & Educational Center in New York City.  As an active community leader, Mr. Ramadan contributes his time and expertise among various non-profit groups with the interest of building a stronger community and empowering youth to realize their dreams.

All are welcome to participate in this commemorative worship experience to affirm our hopes and the dream of a beloved community.  The celebration service will also include a musical tribute by the MLK Community Youth Choir in honor of Dr. King memory.

The doors are open to the public at 2:45 p.m. The middle school is located at 212 Ringgold St.

This is for Kevin- You are really missing out on a big local audience, namely, Putnam Valley. WeRead More are like the forgotten stepchild even though we are part of the same community as Cortlandt and Peekskill. You guys really need to start giving us some coverage, and if you need a reporter, I will send in my resume. Better yet, you can read all my many comments in the PCP. There's a lot going on here that nobody writes about that would be interesting to many readers.

It seems Patch moves editors every year. Liz was here when I signed up. Then she was shortly movedRead More to Rye and Rasheed took over. He must have been here about a year and then he left when the new format was introduced. Both times patch started cooking and then it got cut down just as new staff got their mojo going. A new editor with a new format seems like starting from scratch again. I know AOL/Patch needs to get some cash flow going quick (from what I've read) but I can't see what they are trying to do exactly by tipping the cart over and over

Looks like the choice isRead More getting clearer: One team is Democrat, WFP and Independent and the Catalina Team is Republican, Right-to-life, Conservative.
