PAPA to Host Annual MLK Service in Peekskill Monday

The theme for this year's service, which takes place 3 p.m. Monday at the Peekskill Middle School, is "Keep Dreaming."

The 29th  Annual Martin Luther King Jr.  Interfaith worship service co-sponsored by the Peekskill Area Pastor’s Association (PAPA) and Mount Olivet Baptist Church, will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21,  at the Peekskill Middle School Auditorium. 

With the words of Eleanor  Roosevelt, “the future  belongs to those  who believe in the beauty their dreams.”  This years  theme is aptly entitled “Keep Dreaming.”

Keep Dreaming is an invitation to the community to celebrate and reflect on the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.”  This gathering pays homage to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.”  Rev. Lacey remarks, “Dr. King’s is remembered not only a courageous leader, civil rights activist, Nobel Peace Prize  recipient and visionary icon, but above all, he was an acclaimed Baptist preacher who proclaimed God’s word.

The keynote address will be offered by Zead Ramadan, who serves as the trustee for the Hudson Valley Islamic Cultural Center in Mohegan Lake and Chair for the Board of Directors at the Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial & Educational Center in New York City.  As an active community leader, Mr. Ramadan contributes his time and expertise among various non-profit groups with the interest of building a stronger community and empowering youth to realize their dreams.

All are welcome to participate in this commemorative worship experience to affirm our hopes and the dream of a beloved community.  The celebration service will also include a musical tribute by the MLK Community Youth Choir in honor of Dr. King memory.

The doors are open to the public at 2:45 p.m. The middle school is located at 212 Ringgold St.
