Hudson Valley Hospital Treats Weather-Related Accidents

With weekend temperatures slated to hover in the 40s and low 50s, warmer weather is in sight. But with a forecasted high of 21-degrees in Peekskill Wednesday, experts are cautioning against the cold while it lasts.

Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor released these tips, warning folks of black ice, the risk of hypothermia and, for people who work outdoors, frostbite.

Monday and Tuesday's weather brought some patients to the hospital for cold weather-related accidents.

"Dr. Barry Geller of the Emergency Department said that the ER has seen at least a dozen slip and fall accidents in the past two days resulting in orthopedic related injuries," Victoria Hochman, the hospital's marketing director, said Tuesday afternoon. "Dr. Geller said that the accidents have involved people of all ages, mainly wrist and hip fractures."
