With Hurricane Sandy spinning toward the Hudson Valley and slated to hit late this weekend and early next week, residents still have time to prepare.

The American Red Cross chapter in White Plains has tips on how households and families can prep for the incoming tempest, whipping rains and powerful winds.

Abigail Adams, communications director with the Red Cross Westchester chapter, says emergency kits—complete with batteries and water—are crucial.

Another tool is the Red Cross' Hurricane app, which allows live storm tracking and safety tips.
