How to Help the Peekskill Residents who Lost their Homes in Thursday's Fire

Here is a list of ways and programs designed to help the residents who lost their homes during Thursday morning's structure fire at the Hudson View Estates.

  • The Quiet Man Public House, 15 N Division , Peekskill, NY -email theqmpublichouse@gmail.com or call 914-438-6024 - (will be collecting items daily at the restaurant from 12 noon to 2 am) 
  • The Family Resource Center of Peekskill, Inc. has already made arrangements to start the process of working on two of its recently vacant units to take some of the victims in. Additionally, people in need of emergency food assistance can contact the not-for-profit at: (914) 739-0411 to get an appointment to obtain immediate emergency food assistance.
  • The Peekskill Elks Lodge will be collecting item donations starting Monday from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.  They are located on 1038 Brown Street.  They will continue throughout the week as needed. They can be emailed at: – email

  • Anyone interested in donating to Red Cross can do so by going here.
  • St. Peter's Episcopal Church,  located at 137 N. Division St. in Peekskill, is collecting clothing and food. Their office isn't open today, but anyone with items to donate can email worship@stpeterspeekskill.org or call 914-737-6312 for more information. People can also drop off items at the St. Peter’s parish hall Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., when Fred’s Pantry is open. Fire victims are also welcome to use Fred’s Pantry as a resource.

  • Child's World Academy, located at 50 Dayton Ln. in Peekskill, is offering to the families who lost their homes with temporary child care at no charge while they arrange more permanent housing. Contact us at Child's World Academy, 50 Dayton Lane, Peekskill, NY. Phone: 914-734-4473.

Suggested items to donate, as recommended by The American Red Cross include: 

• Gift Cards: Of any amount $5-$500, especially to grocery stores, Wal-Mart, pre-paid Visa/MasterCard/American Express, Dunkin Donuts, restaurants, etc. 

• Clothing: Women’s, Men’s, Teens, & Children, gently used or brand new, new socks and undergarments, pajamas, etc. 

• Food: Best if non-perishable but also looking for bottled beverages (water, soda, juice), fresh fruit, fully cooked meals, breakfast items (muffins, bagels), granola bars, coffee, tea, etc. 

• Toiletries: The Red Cross will be supplying the initial necessary items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and shampoo, but the impacted families will need these vital items. Please drop off toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, soap, razors, shaving cream, toilet paper, brushes/combs, hair ties, tampons, diapers, bath towels, bath robes, etc. 

• Household Items: New pillows, blankets, sheets, pillow cases, stuffed animals for small children, etc. 

• Furniture: If you have large items of furniture (beds, dressers, couches, cribs, etc.) to donate please put your Name, Phone Number, and Description of the Item(s) you would like to donate in an envelope and drop it off or email mail it to one of the dropoff sites. A case worker from the Red Cross will speak directly with the impacted families to see if they would like your item. This will be a case by case matter and DO NOT bring furniture items to the restaurant please. 

• Children’s Items: Assorted items for ages 20 months, 4 & 5 years old, 10 thru 13 years old including toys, books, school supplies, etc.

• Cash Donations: Any money that is collected will be used to by gift cards to split among the families.

A list of the gender and ages of the people who lost their homes is available below, thanks to the Peekskill Office of Emergency Management.
