Hospital Auxiliary Awards College Scholarships to 4

Local high school students receive $1,000 each; 2 get junior volunteer awards

Following a 45-year tradition, Hudson Valley Hospital Center’s Auxiliary has awarded college scholarships to local high school students pursuing careers in healthcare.

Four students from Hendrick Hudson, Lakeland, Walter Panas and Yorktown High Schools received $1,000 college scholarships from the auxiliary at its Volunteer Recognition Luncheon on April 11.

John C. Federspiel, president of hospital, thanked the volunteers for their service and congratulated the students on their scholarships.

“Hudson Valley Hospital Center wishes you the best of luck in your future careers,’’ he said. “We thank the auxiliary for their efforts in presenting these awards to deserving students.’’

This year’s scholarship winners are Daniel Briggi of Hendrick Hudson High School; Katelynn Champagne of Lakeland High School; Kailynn Hamilton of Walter Panas High School; and Brian Ludwig of Yorktown High School. All ar pursuing careers in healthcare. Maria Deutsch and Maryrose Fabrizio received $300 as part of the Emily Vesce Junior Volunteer Award for outstanding volunteerism.

The Hospital Auxiliary scholarship program has awarded 181 scholarships since it began in 1966. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors in the local area and be interested in a healthcare career. Academic achievement and financial need are also considered in the selection process. This year there were 24applicants from seven area high schools.

Serving on this year’s scholarship committee were Donna Edwards, Vivien Miller, Dr. Virginia Rederer and Marie C. Turner.
