Get to Know A Local Farmer's Market Vendor: Shades of Greea

Shades of Green from Crompond, NY, specializes in ornamental horticulture.

Shades of Green is located in Crompond, NY and is run by Ken and Myra Marsocci. The husband and wife team specialize in ornamental horticulture, and have been vending at the Peekskill Farmer’s Market for the past 9 years.

“The market is a great way to support local business,” said Marsocci. “The closer you are to the source, the better it is for you. And you can get one-on-one information from the growers here.”

Even if you haven’t had a chance to swing by the Shades of Green booth at the market, you might already know them for their landscape and beautification projects, like the decorative flower pots placed around the city of Peekskill, which they supply.

“There’s a lot of things we like about Peekskill,” said Marsocci. “You get that small home-town feel, and see a lot of familiar faces. And there’s always something new to talk about with people.”

Shades of Green offers more than just decorative plants to their customers and at this time of year, herbs and vegetable plants tend to be their best sellers.

"[These plants] are not just ascetically pleasing; they’re also useful,” said the owner.
