All of these vigils for deceased kids that people don't know - and relatives who aren't around - make is appear people are trying become a part of the story in an unhealthy way. These events have become politically chic - the "thing to do" . Has little to do with the kids. They are for the participants.

Similar to how commenting is often for the commentators only.

Jill, that was heartless! Who will remember you?
Ray Adamick December 22, 2012 at 08:05 pm
Remembering the dead began with Cavemen, by trouch light! No super-PAC 's
Jill Gertz December 22, 2012 at 08:17 pm
God I hope - that's all that matters after death. A million people holding candles for me wouldn't mean zip. I recall a New Testament story where a man asks to follow Jesus but says he has to go to a funeral first. Jesus says "Let the dead bury the dead but you go proclaim the kingdom of God". That was just his way of reminding the man that living people are spiritually dead and not a slight aimed at the dead person. If people actually had faith they would not need all these candles and politically chic exercises in self confirmation.
stephanie December 22, 2012 at 11:32 pm
That was very heartless of you to say that about those children and adults that loss there lives from that fool.they did not deserve to die that way those children had there whole lives ahead of them and more as for rhe adults they tried there very best to protect the kids and i am glas that people are having these vigils you dont know how something like this affects children around the world even right here i am glad peekskill is doing that for them way to go for the two that are having that tonight in this very cold wearher
John Whitley December 22, 2012 at 11:46 pm
Gertz, you are a truly sick, nasty, twisted individual. "Politically chic" ????? NO. People like me have to be able to demonstrate how sad they are that these innocent individuals died because of the screwed up gun laws in this Country. I CRIED when I heard about what had happened in Connecticut. Sickos like you turn it into a political agenda. Shame on you. Shame on you.

No law on the books or on future books could prevent this tragedy from happening. This was a sick mind full of hate and anger that only he could see or feel. We will never really know why he did this. The school had taken all reasonable precautions to prevent this. The teachers and children followed all the rules that were practiced many times over. We didn't foresee planes flying into buildings and buildings falling apart into dust or this someone so intent on KILLING innocents by shooting out a window and walking through it on a rampage of destruction. All this EMPTY talk on radio and TV is just filling air space. Politics at its worst. Everyone of them trying to get his agenda on the air. They don't care about anything but their own careers. We must come together as parents and grandparents citizens of of own communities and decide what is best for OUR kids and our schools . Maybe a police officer wouldn't be such a bad idea. He doesn't have to wear a uniform he could blend in as a Teachers aide. We have undercover officers on planes, trains and in banks --in many other places we probably don't even know about.--why not in schools too. Many will say how do we pay for this? I say instead of having professional size ball fields, manicured lawns Olympic sized pools lets invest in safety for precious babies. One or two undercover officers in schools will not break the bank. Think of it as more jobs available for training for some of our returning young service men

Ashley, do you live here in Peekskill? I second what Jo said, the ''new'' patch design is really aRead More horror, although I realize that is not your responsibility. While I think the former editor, Rasheed, probably let some things stand that might be considered rude/mean, how many comments are actually being deleted, versus hitting a tech glitch? I post on yahoo, about half my comments don't make it. Seems the longer I have the comment window open the less chance it gets posted. so that is a tech bug not censorship.
shakemdown June 19, 2013 at 12:03 am
@ASHLEY TARR my comments that i posted did not contain profanity nor did they harrass or abuseRead More anyone, they were just what the forum is for, to discuss issues within our city. but i know, some people would consider it harrasment or would try to have it deleted because the truth hurts, and that's what some of our elected officials don't want you to hear, (the truth)
shakemdown June 19, 2013 at 12:06 am
@jo you are right, the old web site was 100% better then this and it was more user friendly unlikeRead More this new one . BRING BACK THE OLD ONE

Unleashed dogs is getting to be a big problem in Peekskill. I see them routinely now. People areRead More letting their pit bulls out, their poodles, their chihuahuas - all kinds of dogs. Two days a go I watched a lady jogging on the track with her loose dog. The dog wasn't even supposed to be on the track no less loose. Some kid or elderly lady is going to get bit. Loose dogs also end up in more fights with other dogs.

It seems Patch moves editors every year. Liz was here when I signed up. Then she was shortly movedRead More to Rye and Rasheed took over. He must have been here about a year and then he left when the new format was introduced. Both times patch started cooking and then it got cut down just as new staff got their mojo going. A new editor with a new format seems like starting from scratch again. I know AOL/Patch needs to get some cash flow going quick (from what I've read) but I can't see what they are trying to do exactly by tipping the cart over and over
Wendy Kelly June 17, 2013 at 08:37 am
Agree Joshua just when you have a good thing going with an Editor they move. I can't figure thisRead More site out I was not allowed to post for at least a week thought Mary et al put an hex on me. Hey anyone know where Peter Goodson is??? I miss his posts.

Working Families Party endorsed candidate Mary Foster
Robin Seggs June 14, 2013 at 10:44 am
Working Families Party almost always cross endorses with Democrats. Looks like the choice isRead More getting clearer: One team is Democrat, WFP and Independent and the Catalina Team is Republican, Right-to-life, Conservative. Anyway, I believe Catalina is campaigning as anti-gay rights, so I know how I will be voting.
jo June 14, 2013 at 02:28 pm
