Step Up 2 Health is a United Way run collaboration of seven local partner nonprofits focused on health education, gardening and exercise. The partnering organizations were carefully researched and selected by a team of United Way volunteers. Once selected, partners meet regularly to identify root causes, work towards common solutions and measure results.

Currently, Westchester’s obesity rate is 17% and Putnam’s is a startling 29%. These high obesity rates can lead to significantly higher rates of diabetes, heart disease and other serious illnesses. This generation of children is the first that may not surpass the life expectancy of their parents. United Way Step Up 2 Health partners are showing families concrete steps on how to improve their health.

Later this month United Way will be launching its community conversation on health. This survey will help uncover where there are gaps in services, who may be slipping through the cracks and how United Way, volunteers, and partners can work together to build a healthier community.
