Miss Italia Peekskill

I thought Peekskill was predominately South and Latin American. Miss Italia Peekskill is just another reminder of the city's attempt to down play its minority population instead of embracing it. Peekskill's attempt to gentrify itself using artist and Italian Festivals is an outdated racist approach that leaves the city where it has been for 20 years.

What a confusing article. You say that you thought "Peekskill is predominately South and Latin American" in one sentence, yet, in the very next sentence, you blame an Italian pageant on "the city's attempt to downplay its minority population instead of embracing it." By your own statement, you are stating that South and Latin Americans are the majority, thus making Italians a minority. Therefore, Peekskill is NOT downplaying its minority population. The definition of Minority, is a number or amount that is less than half of a total. NO minority group should be bullied by insulting, rude and biased comments, because that is considered racist. Two steps back for you, for failing to accept ALL people as equals in society. Scritto da un orgoglioso italiano.

My sister, Sandra Lee Truett Ritornato competed in the Miss Peekskill contest in 1959. She was of Italian/ Irish and German descent. So, when she ran, she was of three different ethnicities in addition to be an American! We all come from somewhere, Lorraine. Get over your despicable predijuces!

Very entertaining comments! Glad to see everyone is concerned about the reputation of Peekskill. I hope you will use your passion for Peekskill to help it become a productive part of Westchester.
