Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester Offers Support Groups to Cope with Loss

This winter and spring, Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester (HPCW) will provide several support groups to help those coping with the loss of a loved one. The programs will run between nine and 10 weeks. These support groups are designed for those who are grieving to help find comfort with one another in a safe, healing environment.

Support group schedules:

  • “Parent-Sibling Loss” will begin Feb. 24 and meet Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
  • “Daytime Spouse Loss” will begin March 5 and meet Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • “Evening Spouse Loss” will begin April 24 and meet Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

This March, HPCW is also launching “Flying Solo,” a support group specifically for women who have been widowed for at least a year, to help them adapt to new challenges and embrace new opportunities. The program will run from March 13 through May 8 on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“When coping with the loss of a loved one, the support of others – especially those experiencing a similar grief – can have a major, positive impact,” said Mary Spengler, executive director of HPCW.

All groups are held at HPCW, 311 North Street, Suite 204, White Plains and involve a screening assessment prior to joining. Although the groups do not require a fee to participate, bereavement programs are funded primarily by donations and grants, and contributions are gratefully accepted. For additional information, please contact HPCW’s bereavement coordinators Karen Dreher at (914) 682-1484 ext. 130 or Kim Gordon at (914) 682-1484 ext. 163.
