Edward W. Murray, age 98, beloved husband of the late Julia Driscoll Murray, died peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Hudson Valley Hospital. Born in Verplanck on May 21, 1914, he was the son of the late Edward and Anastasia Murray and was a lifelong resident of Buchanan and Verplanck. Edward was a supervisor and later the Traffic Manager at Standard Brands (Fleischmann's) in Peekskill. After retiring, he was hired as a consultant by the corporate office in New York to provide historical information for the Standard Brands legal department.
A U.S. Navy Veteran, Ed served as a Chief Boatswain's Mate in the U.S. Atlantic fleet at Solomons, MD, serving in World War II.
Survivors include two loving daughters, Sharon Klebe and husband David of Monroe, CT and Kathleen Harrison of Pine Bush, NY; grandson, Connor Harrison of Pine Bush, as well as many special nieces and nephews; and a beloved friend, Cesare Pasquale, who was his caregiver in later years. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, family gatherings, the NY Yankees, the NY Giants, and sitting by the Hudson River.
Calling hours will take place on Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 2 – 5pm at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose, NY. Friends are invited to attend a mass of Christian Burial on Monday, January 14 at 11am in St. Patrick's Church, 240 11th Street, Verplanck, NY followed by an interment at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Verplanck, NY. www.efcarter.com
