Fashion Moda’s The Cutting Edge Keeps Collaborative, Accessible Art Alive

During the days when artists adopted a burnt out South Bronx, graffiti began to emerge as an art form and hip-hop was a new genre of music, Fashion Moda was created. Its founder describes Fashion Moda as a “cultural concept,” that manifested in his work space, which was an abandoned storefront in the South Bronx in 1978. “Fashion Moda was the site of exhibitions, performances, film screenings and creative collaborations for more than a decade,” writes the New York Times’ Susan Hodara in a review of a current Fashion Moda show in Purchase. Daisy Jopling and Community Return to the Paramount

Jopling will perform with dozens of students and local musicians on Peekskill’s biggest stage.

Daisy Jopling has been schooling audiences around the world on the range and possibilities of a violin for years. Since she moved to Peekskill a few years ago she has been thrilling audiences with her violin at all kinds of events, from school assembly’s to festivals to the Paramount Center for the Arts. On May 19 she will return to the Paramount to perform music from her new album, a collection of high-energy classical music fused with world music and rock, with her band. Last year, she brought the Paramount crowd to their feet when they gave her a full-house standing ovation.  This year, some of the area’s most talented young musicians and performers will join Jopling on stage. [VIDEO] Astorino Declares Today Beach Boys Day in Westchester

The Beach Boys will be playing at the Westchester County Center at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

County Executive Rob Astorino has declared May 15, 2012 as “Beach Boys Day” in Westchester and honored the legendary band from sunny California with a proclamation Tuesday afternoon just before their evening show at the Westchester County Center, which is expected to be sold out. “My parent’s, when I tell them about my job and who I meet—no excitement, but when I told them The Beach Boys and all of a sudden their jumping down ‘can we come, can we come’,” said Astorino. The Beach Boys and the Westchester County Parks System are both celebrating their 50th anniversaries. Human Beat Box Prepares Garden Road Students for Street Games

Garden Road School students learned from human beat box Michael Feigenbaum and will perform at the Street Games event Saturday.

Human beat box Michael Feigenbaum will be performing and teaching participants about body percussion and beatboxing at the Second Annual Street Games Saturday, May 12 at the Garden Road School. Feigenbaum has spent hours with Garden Roads students this week, teaching them about his art and preparing them for their special performance.  Watch the video to learn about what beatboxing teaches children and for a sneak peak of the show! ArtsWestchester’s annual ArtsBash is taking place on May 18–in conjunction with Westchester Magazine’s Food and Wine Weekend. ArtsBash is a celebration of art and food that promises a full night of extraordinary artistic and culinary masterpieces from over 20 artists and 30 beloved local restaurants. Musicians Flock to 12 Grapes for 1,000th Live Music Performance

Dozens of local musicians returned to their favorite local venue to perform in celebration of 12 Grapes 1,000th live show.

12 Grapes owner Jeannie Credidio fell to her knees and bent over in worship of the musicians on stage Sunday night. She and husband Rich threw a day-long party in celebration of their 1,000th live show and invited every musician and singer they have ever had on their stage to come by and jam. Dozens of musicians and singers happily attended the party, and made the most of the opportunity to jam with each other all afternoon and evening. They played original songs and dozens of classics by Stevie Wonder, the Allman Brothers, and other rock and roll groups that kept the crowded audience moving and shaking. Elvis, City Officials Celebrate Beale Street Barber Shop Grand Opening in Peekskill

Peekskill's new barbershop, vintage store, art gallery and music venue opened Saturday.

If you like rock n' roll you'll probably love Beale Street Barber Shop. If you like rock n'roll, vintage clothing, old cars and a nice shave, you would have definitely loved BSBS's grand opening on Saturday. The event featured a performance by an Elvis look alike and photography by Mark Collins and William Anderson. "I love art, music and cutting hair," Sinnis told the crowd.
