Senator Ball Delivers $18,000 Grant to Peekskill American Legion

The money will go towards much needed renovations of the post.

Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) delivered a lifeline for the Peekskill American Legion Post #0274 in the form of an $18,000 grant, which will be used for critical renovations.

“The Peekskill American Legion is the only active Veterans organization in the City of Peekskill and I could not stand by and watch them loose their historic headquarters,” Senator Ball said. “It is critically important that our heroes, both past and present, have a place to connect.”

The post has been in existence for close to a hundred years, and the building’s stone foundation is in dire need of repair. In addition, post leaders said there is wood damage on the main floor.

“I can’t tell you how appreciative we are of the Senator. We are a center of Veterans needs here in Peekskill and Cortlandt. We’ve been trying to keep our headquarters going so the Veterans returning home have some place to come to seeking help,” said Jerry O’Shaughnessy, the post’s treasurer and secretary. “To have the money coming in with the help of Senator Ball we can’t be any more thankful. This will help put our building back in shape and keep us going.”
