The grant will be used to help fund the museum’s rehabilitation project.

“I couldn’t be happier to deliver this grant for Peekskill to the Lincoln Depot Foundation,” Ball said. “This facility is going to drive jobs and foot traffic to Peekskill. I am proud to fight to bring as much of our tax money back from Albany, to home, where it belongs. As long as I am in office I will continue to fight for this wonderful historical cause and the hidden jewel of Peekskill.”

The depot is where President-elect Abraham Lincoln addressed a crowd of more than 3,000 citizens on Feb. 19, 1861. It was the only speech that Lincoln ever gave in Westchester County.

A bronze statue of Lincoln by artist Richard Masloski stands outside the museum.

“We are absolutely ecstatic to receive this grant from Senator Greg Ball. We have a lot of public programing that we want to roll out over the next 24 months and this will be a huge help,” said Susan Jacobson, executive director of the Lincoln Depot Foundation. “There is a lot of history here in Peekskill and we are very excited to use this grant to tell these stories.”
