Brush Fire Near Camp Smith; County Provides 'Bambi Bucket'
County “bambi bucket” called in to put out brush fire near Camp Smith.
A brush fire on or near the Camp Smith property broke out late this afternoon, according to Westchester County public information officer Kieran O’Leary. A Westchester County helicopter with a bambi bucket, a feature that allows the helicopter to pick up about 200 gallons of water from the Hudson River and fly it back to the fire, is working on the scene. The helicopter has been flying back and forth collecting and then dumping water on the fire for about two hours, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. O’Leary said. The helicopter is still responding to the fire as of 6:15 p.m. It also includes an infrared camera that can scope out hot spots.
The Continental Village Fire Department responded to the fire along with the County aviation unit. As far as O’Leary knows there have been no injuries.

The fire is not out and won't be for a while. The Fire Departments have took a defensive attack and have let it burn. They are first trting to protect Camp Smith which is in the path of the fire. They have begun to control it but can't send manpower to fight it with the helicopter droping water.

Thanks for the update Kyle. The forecast called for rain tonight and tomorrow. Let's hope it comes. If you can update us again tomorrow too that would be great. Thanks.
